My newest single, "Apathy", comes out Friday 11/3/2023 on all streaming platforms.
This gentle, somber single is a stark contrast to its predecessors. Nothing to hang onto but a piano, a voice, and the words themselves.
I wrote this song the year I graduated college. At the time, I was so disgusted with myself and everyone and everything around me. If one line had to encapsulate the essence of the whole song, it would be "Fuck You for what you did to me. I don't love you anymore." I felt it all over and inside of me. It wasn’t until I wrote the bridge two years later—in the Times Square Guitar Center, because it was the only access I had to a piano at the time— did I realize how much of that anger was at myself, and how much I had numbed myself to feeling anything other than indifference.
Apathy is the defense mechanism of the 21st century. When feeling becomes too overwhelming, we attempt to protect ourselves by shutting down. But powerful feelings ultimately can't be ignored, and one day we crack open.
But in that cracking, our wounds exposed and raw and unavoidable, we begin to heal. When we finally have the courage to confront our loneliness and despair, we realize how un-alone we actually are.
